July Family Portraits

Family PortraitPhotos by Kamila Lonska (KlonPhoto)

Forget the nasty heat spell we’ve been under, we had a great Sunday!

Okay, maybe it’s not so easy to forget about how frickin’ hot it is outside. But aside from that, what made our day was having family portraits taken Sunday afternoon, and now we get to share them with all of you.

These photos were taken by photographer Kamila Lonska, of KlonPhoto.

She currently shoots for one (sometimes two) of our inline hockey teams on Sunday, so we asked her if she’d be interested in capturing some updated photos of our ‘ohana. With all the studio gear that Papa has been picking up lately, we brought it all over to Kamila’s place to shoot and made an afternoon of it.

In addition to shooting portraits for us, we also took photos of her brother’s family, their 14-month old daughter (who didn’t sit still very long at all) an even some shots of Kamila and her boyfriend, Kamil. Fun was had by all, and we’ll certainly do this again before the summer is over.

Papa and Christian

With Papa taking so many of photos of Christian lately, it felt good to step out from behind the camera for a bit. After all, we can’t look back at his first year two decades from now and only see photos of Christian with his Mama, now can we.

Thanks again Kamila and Kamil for letting us take over your living room for a few hours. These photos are going to last a very long time. :)

Aloha Weekend

Wow, that was a short week!

Hard to believe it’s Saturday already, and we’re another week closer to leaving for Maui. They’re not kidding when they tell you time flies as a new parent.

The Fourth

As fast as this week soared by, there’s still some getting caught up from over this past 4th of July weekend. We took a fair amount of photos Sunday and Monday of last week, and shot some (ok) video from the 4th as well. I still need to work on shooting better video with my digital camera (it’s not true camcorder, mind you) but seeing Christian dip his toes into the pool for the first time and enjoying a real swing ride with Mama are still adorable to watch. Coming soon, I promise.

More Photos

In addition to being behind from last weekend, we already took a head start on this weekend by shooting some photos Friday night. I had ordered one of those studio backgrounds for shooting portraits at home, so we decided to try it out after getting back from the Taste of Park Ridge. Here was our favorite from the night, and we’re planning to do it again Saturday morning before we head out for our errands.

Close UpClose Up

Honestly, I was originally nervous that I wouldn’t be able to capture good images of Christian despite making a serious investment in a high-end camera last November. But now, I can say it was not only totally worth it, but I’m also having a complete blast in the process. :)

Happy 4th of July

Taste of Chicago FireworksHappy 4th of July everyone!

Being the 4th day of the month, it makes Christian 7 months old today. Lucky 7, yay!

The 4th also marks an unofficial anniversary for Cindy and I, as it was 14 years ago today that we started our relationship. So much for calling it Independence Day, eh? I’m kidding, of course. Love you, baby. :)

No Fireworks for Us

Seeing as Christian is still a tad young for loud and thunderous noises – and the fact that he still gets hysterical when he hears automatic hand dryers when getting his diaper changed in public restrooms – we won’t be rushing out to see fireworks this year. We’ll see how he’s doing with loud noises next year. He may very well have a few Hawks games under his belt by then, you never know. ;)

Instead, we were looking at photos last week on our new Apple TV and came across these fireworks photos from our ’09 trip down to the Taste of Chicago. Coincidentally, that was the last year the city put on their grand fireworks show. So until they get their finances straight in future years, these will have to do.

Enjoy,

Family Photo Night

After Papa received some new lighting gear this week and wanted to try it out, we started playing “pass the camera” and it turned into a little fun for all.

Looks like the shutterbug might be contagious.

Also looks like Papa needs to shave. ;)

First Father’s Day

Well, our first Father’s Day has come and gone, and I can say it wasn’t bad at all.

Too Early

Did Papa get to sleep in on his first Father’s Day? I don’t think so.

Thanks to the ongoing genius of the person scheduling our roller hockey leagues, we had the second time slot of the day at 9:50am. No one wants to play that early, let alone on Father’s Day. If you recall, both teams I play on for the Sunday leagues had a bye week on Mother’s Day, but no such luck this Sunday.

Despite how early it was, it was still fun to hang out at the rink with our little guy, as usual.

Shopping and Photo Shoot

After the game and a few errands, we headed out to do a little shopping at Woodfield Mall. We ended up at the Apple Store for Papa’s gift, which was the Apple TV unit. Not a bad gadget gift for only $99, and now Christian gets to see all his photos, slideshows, and movies right at home on our big screen television. That should keep him amused for awhile.

Since the rain that was supposed to hit us all weekend never came, we made a stop over at Busse Woods to take a few photos after that.

Higher Papa

Cindy and Christian

Mama grabbed the camera for a few shots this time, and gave it her best while our little guy started to get way too fussy. As you can see here, by the end of it, nothing was going to make him happy. So we headed for home.

Pouty Face

Too Late

After coming home and playing around with our new Apple TV setup, it was once again time for Papa to head to the rink. This time, it was the last time slot of the day, a 10:20pm start. Way too late for Mama and Christian to come with, for sure. At least they were able to make it for the morning game.

And that was about it for Sunday. Family, hockey, a new tech gadget, and a short photo shoot. Other than being on a far away island paradise, I don’t think I could have asked for much else. :)
