Skating at 20 Months [Videos]

Well, we knew this day was coming way back when we first found out we were having a boy…

Christian is Skating!

Well, Sort Of

Okay, so he’s not exactly tearing up the concrete just yet, but it’s was a great day for the Nelson ‘ohana on Sunday. And with a big thanks to Mama for manning the iPhone, we have the video to share with you all.

I probably should have warned you how adorable he looks doing this, but I suppose it’s too late now.

Combine that with the video of his first hockey stick, and we’ll be driving around to all the suburban hockey rinks before we know it.

That Didn’t Take Long

No, not long at all.

Thanks to the well documented parental time warp, it seems like he’s been walking on his own forever now, even though he’s only been doing that for eight months. And here we are now, capturing his first steps in roller blades nearing the end of the summer.

And by the way, don’t try finding a video here of Christian’s first steps. It doesn’t exist. :)

There is this video of him walking around a table at his baby luau, and this post from January where Christian is walking on his own (by the way, I just watched that video while writing this – too darn cute!).

But his very first solo steps were not recorded. It was still, however, a very special moment we’ll never forget.

The First Steps

Christian’s first steps were on Christmas day at Cindy’s grandfather’s house, and just before we were sitting down for dinner. With Papa on one side of the room, Mama on the other, and her grandfather watching from his chair, our little guy made half a dozen trips back and forth between the two of us. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

Fast forward back to today, and he’s on his first pair of skates. We’re so proud.

What’s Next?

Well, I don’t think we’ll be running out to the pro shop to buy ice skates just yet – that’s going to take a little more effort.

Swimming is probably next on Christian’s list, and seeing that his Papa never learned to swim, it could turn out to be a monumental event just as Sunday was for us. But that won’t be for awhile anyways, so we won’t get ahead of ourselves there.

Let’s just stop and savor this moment right now.

Have a great week everyone!
