Our Rabbits

For quite some time, we had talked about having pet rabbits. We'd always would watch the ones that were wild and lived in the neighborhoods out by us and thought they were very cute in the way the ran around and socialized in pairs and small groups.

So finally in early 2006, we broke down and bought a pair. At this point, we have one male and one female rabbit, Sky and Star. We don't have any plans to add a third anytime soon.

Sky the Rabbit

Sky was the first rabbit we bought, and he's the black one that's a little shy. He was probably 5 months old in this photo, and even though he's gotten a little bigger since then, he won't get too big being a small mini rex. During the day, he mostly likes to lay around and rest, but later in the evening and sometimes in the middle of the night, he likes to rearrange everything in his cage just for fun.

He seems to enjoy the sport of Igloo Surfing, something we usually see when we get home from somewhere. He just climbs up on the plastic igloo in his cage and makes herself comfortable. In some cases when Kris is up late working, he's seen him push the igloo in the middle of the cage and run back and forth, jumping over it.

Star the Rabbit

Star is the younger of the two, and we got her a little later on because we knew Sky wanted a furry companion. While Sky we found right away and instantly knew he was the one we wanted, we had to hunt around the different pet stores in our area to find Star. Once we finally found her, though, it was definitely the one we wanted.

With Star being a little younger than Sky, she seems to be a lot more curious and friendlier, with a lot more energy as well. She was about five weeks old and maybe 8 weeks in this picture. Much like Sky, she has grown a good deal since we brought her home, but we don't expect her to get too much larger.

Star also likes to sit on top of her igloo, but since she's a little smaller than Sky, we have her in a slightly smaller cage with a smaller igloo. With her recent growth, she is starting to out grow the igloo she has now, so when we get the larger cage for both of them, they'll have much more room to run around and climb.

Sky was our first rabbit and is a little on the shy side. His favorite activity is probably Igloo Surfing, where he spends hours a day lying on top of the purple igloo in his cage. He also enjoys tossing around his ball, raising "the roof" of his igloo, and chomping on empty paper towel rolls, going through about two a week.

Star is the friendlier and more curious of the pair. She loves getting a lot of attention and being petted, especially above her nose. She races around in circles, and likes to lounge on the different shelves in her cage. Star is a big veggie lover and enjoys romaine lettuce, endive and kale, eating it almost as soon as we put it in her cage.
